    • Overview

In 2018, U.S. poison control centers responded to more than 2 million calls about human poisonings. Of those, 24% were called in by health care facilities and health care providers. Many providers have little education and knowledge about toxicology and poisonings. As they may be the first to receive questions about poisonings, it's important for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and nurses to be familiar with which drugs have the potential to cause serious toxicity, under what circumstances, and what the response should be.
