Pharmacists are becoming more involved in direct patient administration of long-acting injectable medications that range in scope from psychiatric to gynecologic applications. The preparation and administration of these drugs, however, can be much different from other injectables. This series seeks to build a foundation for pharmacists to confidently consult with patients and administer long-acting injectables drugs.
The program utilizes video resources so that the learner can observe proper injection techniques first-hand and covers related scenarios that pharmacists who administer long-acting injectables may come across. For example, billing and payment options are explored to aid in improving patient access and strategies for identifying and providing appropriate interventions during a mental health crisis are also covered.
