    Program Description

    The regimens used in the management of infertility can be complex and foreign to many, even within the health care system. This 5.25 credit specialty series was created to equip the pharmacist with the tools and confidence needed to initiate open and fruitful discussions with patients facing this challenge. The pharmacist’s role is highlighted throughout this series of trainings, including the legal and regulatory aspects of this special area of practice



    Structure and Function of the Female and Male Reproductive Systems
    In this module, the anatomy and physiology of the female and male reproductive systems will be examined. The menstrual cycle; the processes of fertilization, implantation, parturition, and lactation; and the hormonal changes that take place from puberty throughout pregnancy will be discussed. This background knowledge will allow for the pharmacist to have a complete understanding of the pathogenesis of infertility.

    Male and Female Infertility: Prevalence, Etiology, Challenges, and Prevention
    This module will describe the prevalence and etiological factors associated with male and female infertility as well as the challenges associated with treating infertility, prevention methods, and why it is critical for society to address the disease state.

    Evaluation of Infertility
    This module will describe the approach to the evaluation of the female and male patient to assess infertility including the history, physical exam, and other pertinent diagnostic tests. The psychosocial aspects to infertility will also be discussed.

    Non-Pharmacological and Pharmacological Treatment of Infertility This module will look at lifestyle modifications that can impact fertility as well as the effect of acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. The pharmacological management of infertility and patient counseling for each therapeutic intervention will also be discussed.

    Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surgery in the Treatment of Infertility
    This module will describe in vitro fertilization and intrauterine insemination including the indications, risks, success rates, and the methods used for each procedure. The different types of female and male infertility surgery will also be outlined.

    Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Assisted Reproductive Technology and the Psychosocial Impact of Infertility in the Male and Female Patient
    This module will review the regulatory and legal aspects of assisted reproductive technology as well as the psychosocial and psychological impact of infertility in the male and female patient. Suggestions for the role of the pharmacist in managing infertility will also be discussed.

    About Our Faculty:
    Stacey Schneider, PharmD
    Dr. Schneider is a licensed pharmacist in Ohio and Florida and has completed a residency in primary care at the John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis, MO in conjunction with earning a teaching certificate in affiliation with the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

    She has practiced in the community as a clinician and has been the director of medication management services as well as establishing health/wellness and immunization clinics. Dr. Schneider has transitioned into academia teaching both medicine and pharmacy students and her teaching and scholarship have focused on communication skills, clinical interviews, patient assessment, professional identity development, mentorship and women’s health. She has been certified as an instructor in Mind Body Medicine through the Georgetown University College of Medicine and has led several workshops focused on various techniques that involve self-awareness, meditation, reflection and wellness and is the founder of RaeofLight, LLC.

    • Registration costs $147 for members, $247 for non-members.
    • This program's final exam consists of 50 unique multiple-choice questions.
    • You have only three (3) attempts to pass the final certification exam.
    • You may not leave the final certification exam in the middle and return at a later time.
    • The final certification exam has no time limit; however, we recommend that you write the answers down in case you lose your Internet connection or get interrupted while taking the exam.
    • You will earn continuing education credit as you complete each activity, totaling 5.25 credits upon final completion of all required activities, or 8 credits if you complete the bonus module.
    • You will have 12 months to complete the specialty certification before it expires from your account.
    • This series certification is NOT accredited for pharmacy techincians or nurses
