    • Overview

As early as 2004, one recognized survey of American pharmacists reported a staggering 70% affirmation of “job stress and role overload”. As responsibilities have evolved and additional stressors added to pharmacy practice, the responses grew even more dismal. The results to the healthcare system and the adverse effects on pharmacist and pharmacy technician wellbeing are finally getting an understandable level of national attention. And, while the sources are not always within direct control, experts point to specific and measurable proactive measures that professionals can take to help mitigate the risk. This session brings together a team of panelists who approach the topic of professional burnout and stressors from very different angles. The etiology and science of burnout will be explored, along with a discussion of when medication therapy and other ancillary measures, such as meditation, may be appropriate tools for management.
