    • Overview

There are many situations in which patients can’t take medications orally. Intravenous (IV) therapy is an alternate option that is employed when either a medication isn’t stable in pill form or a patient is, for various reasons, unable to swallow. As with any industry, the IV room comes with its own jargon. This session’s goal is to introduce and explain common jargon that may be new for those unfamiliar with sterile compounding. Discussion will focus on sterile compounding guidelines USP 797, hazardous sterile compounding USP 800, standard IV fluids and jargon, high alert notices and their significance, with special highlights on which diligent technicians can focus.
