    • Overview

Glucagon like peptide 1 agonists (GLP-1) are used in treating type 2 diabetes and for the achievement of weight loss. Obesity has been associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, American Diabetes Association (ADA) estimates that more than 90% of patients who are overweight or obese are aslo diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The recently updated ADA 2022 guidelines recommend choosing first line medications based on patient’s concurrent diseases. Therefore, in this session we will review the difference between GLP-1 agonists and their role in type 2 diabetes and obesity. Additionally, after the webinar pharmacy technicians will be able to recognize the GLP-1 agonist injection techniques, their storage and list some of the common available patient assistance programs.
