    • Overview

“Be prepared” is the motto of the Boy Scouts, who attract millions of youth to their outdoor programs. Preparation is essential every time we take our families outside, whether to enjoy a picnic on our back deck or to take a 3-day backpacking trip. Even our trips to the beach require preparation with sunscreen, insect repellant, and a very adequate first aid kit. We can’t treat conditions like anaphylaxis or snakebites over-the-counter, but adequate knowledge of these situations will ensure that we seek professional help immediately.
