  Overview

  Thirty-six years ago, when I began this career, the GI section was one of the simplest. We had a variety of antacid therapies and not much else. When the histamine blockers and proton pump inhibitors moved out front, we had some very efficacious acid blocking therapies. The question becomes whether our patients even qualified to make such a therapeutic judgement to use these very potent medications. In this module, we will not only explore the therapies, but also their potentially deadly side effects. We’ll also discuss nausea and vomiting, although usually self-limiting, if left untreated can cause significant illness.
