I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. I received my Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in Biology in 2010 and then a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in 2014 from the University of New Mexico. I completed a partial residency at the Raymond G. Murphy Veterans Affairs Medical Center. During my residency, I realized that hospital pharmacy was not for me and this realization led me to long-term care pharmacy. I began my career with PharMerica Pharmacy in 2015 and have enjoyed all aspects of long-term care ever since. Over the past year, my pharmacy team has noticed an increase in inappropriate prescribing of transdermal (TD) fentanyl (Duragesic™). In response to over 16 near misses that would have led to sentinel events, I began creating solutions and educating my team and the physicians involved in the prescribing errors. I created an internal TD fentanyl dosing protocol for the pharmacy, however, I wanted to do more. This past June, I volunteered to create a presentation for the annual New Mexico Pharmacist Association convention. The presentation received wonderful feedback, which fueled my desire to continue spreading my knowledge and passion. I am also scheduled to present at the local New Mexico Health-Systems Pharmacy Annual Balloon Fiesta Symposium this upcoming October (2019) and I will be a featured guest with the New Mexico Medical Society annual CME DVD. In my spare time, I love watching any MCU movie, or binge-watching Netflix and Amazon Prime originals with my husband.
