Jacob Pritchard is a fourth-year Pharmacy student enrolled at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He is currently on a rotation alongside mentors, Dr. Mark Peters and Dr. Shawn Keogan, with a dedicated focus on patient advocacy. He is passionately involved in a global landscape mapping initiative, aimed at identifying non-profit cancer organizations across various European countries.
In addition to his current rotation, Jacob has also completed rotations in diverse settings, including the cardiovascular ICU, medical ICU, pediatric infectious disease consult service, and the global safety surveillance and analysis team at Procter and Gamble. These experiences have further honed his expertise and provided him with a multifaceted perspective on the healthcare field.
At MUSC, Jacob was a part of several organizations, most notably, Rho Chi, Phi Lambda Sigma, and the Industry Pharmacists Organization. Jacob received admission into Rho Chi through his academic achievement and into Phi Lambda Sigma by his peers through his leadership involvement on campus. In addition to his academic and leadership involvement, Jacob also worked at Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital in the Outpatient and Inpatient pharmacy.
During his fourth year, Jacob's standout achievements have included delivering a notable grand rounds presentation on the topic of blinatumomab for relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Additionally, he co-authored a compelling research paper titled "Drug-resistant gram-negative bacteria: a focus on the practical application of novel beta-lactams in pediatric patients," which was successfully submitted to the Infectious Diseases Special Edition Journal. These accomplishments underscore Jacob's commitment to advancing healthcare knowledge and his contributions to the field of pharmacy.
Jacob is also involved with the LowVelo Bike Race for Cancer Research through the Holling’s Cancer Center in Charleston. Last year he trained for a 50-mile bike ride while raising $500 for future research at Holling’s Cancer Center. This year he is the team captain of a 12-person team where he is training to ride 25 miles and raise $500.
Jacob aspires to embark on a career within the pharmaceutical industry, where he aims to contribute to the ongoing battle against cancer. His professional passions lie within medical affairs, with a steadfast desire to further his expertise in hematology/oncology, scientific communications, medical strategy, and field medical affairs.
