Dr. Jacqueline Barber first attended the University of Minnesota, receiving Bachelor of Science degrees in both Nutrition and Pharmacy. She then received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Texas, Austin, and Health Science Center, San Antonio, followed by an ASHP Fellowship in Pharmacy Nutrition Support at the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics in Minneapolis. Dr. Barber held faculty positions in both the College of Pharmacy and the School of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, before returning to Minnesota, where she has participated on the clinical and academic faculty of the U of MN for 35 years and counting. As such, she has practiced and experienced pharmacy in various roles spanning academic, hospital and community settings in Texas, South Carolina and Minnesota.
Dr. Barber was board certified in Nutrition Support Pharmacy (BCNSP) for 28 years and served two terms on the Nutrition Specialty Council for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS). She developed the role and was the Pharmacy Clinical Specialist in Nutrition Support at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park (a suburb of Minneapolis), for almost 30 years, where she also served as the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director. In addition to her patient care and clinical responsibilities, she served as a preceptor for pharmacy students on nutrition support rotations, with more than 500 students precepted over her clinical practice career, as well as having on-campus and online CE outreach teaching responsibilities, for which she received multiple awards over the years. Practice interests include topics related to parenteral nutrition, student and staff development and mentoring, and training of hospital pharmacy residents. Dr. Barber is a fellow (FASHP) of the American Society for Health-System Pharmacy (ASHP), as well as a member of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN). In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors, golf, photography, music and the company of family and friends.
