Coastal Region Human Trafficking Task Force

Shelley Sasser recently graduated from Horry-Georgetown Technical College with an Associate of Arts. During her two years at HGTC, she led a human trafficking prevention project focused on promoting safety among individuals within South Carolina through education. As part of this effort, she completed extensive scholarly research on human trafficking, compiled retrieved information into a PowerPoint, and offered 17 presentations to residents of four South Carolina counties. This endeavor later gained statewide recognition and won first place in the 2019 South Carolina Technical Education Association Student Community Involvement Project Competition. Currently, Sasser is a collaborative partner with the South Carolina Coastal Region Human Trafficking Task Force. She now plans to share her knowledge of human trafficking with health professionals to assist them with identification of victims in the clinical setting.
Aside from her work with human trafficking prevention, Sasser is a Life Scholarship recipient and a participant in the HGTC Honors Program. She was also recently recognized at the South Carolina State House as a 2019 All-State Academic Team Member and the 2019 Christopher A. Calhoun Scholar for outstanding academic achievement and community involvement. At this time, Sasser attends Coastal Carolina University, where she studies Behavioral Neuroscience and Forensics.
