    • Overview

This class will explore the relationship of trust that exists between patients and the pharmacists who provide pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical care services for the benefit of patients. The class will consider the importance of the covenantal relationship in which society grants a virtual monopoly to pharmacists over medication distribution, and in exchange pharmacists commit to protecting the public from unsafe medication use. Using the example of extemporaneous compounding, the class concludes that professionalism necessitates the taking of measured and reasonable risks to provide patients with useful and appropriate drug therapy.
