    • Overview

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide rates in the nation are higher now than they have been in decades. Pharmacists are especially vulnerable to impacts on their mental health and well-being, which can, in turn, impact patient care. However, limited programming is available to target this aspect of pharmacy practice. It is imperative that we appreciate and address the crisis that we are in as a nation and profession. Awareness is the first step necessary to begin the process of enhancing the well-being of ourselves and others. Furthermore, it is critical that we are aware of techniques and resources available that can be utilized to address mental health issues and improve the well-being of pharmacists. Pharmacists are key players in the patient care area, but in order to provide safe and effective patient care, they must be healthy themselves. This often necessitates that pharmacists engage in healthy self-care behaviors in order to promote resiliency. Additionally, we want to discourage coping strategies that can be risky or illegal, causing harm to themselves or others.
