    • Overview

COPD affects millions of patients in the United States and is a commonly encountered disease state in the healthcare arena. With the role of a pharmacist expanding to include additional clinical functions, such as medication therapy management and collaborative practice, it is essential that an evidence-based approach is taken when evaluating and optimizing pharmacotherapy regimens. Additionally, several newer therapeutic options and combination products have been approved by the FDA for COPD in recent years. Guidelines are available to help guide the assessment and treatment of COPD; therefore, it is imperative that pharmacists can assess and apply them when contributing to the implementation and monitoring of patient-specific drug regimens for COPD.
