    • Overview

Healthcare professionals are increasingly finding themselves caring for transgender patients, a patient population that may present new challenges and opportunities in both pharmaceutical knowledge and patient communication skills.  Aligning with the District of Columbia educational requirement for servicing LGBTQ patient populations, this session seeks to explore the special healthcare needs of transgender patients.  Commonly used medications in transgender health are reviewed, including safety considerations and risks.  Additionally, the spectrum of gender identity is examined within the context of appropriate patient communications.
