  Overview

  The Human Immunodeficiency Virus was first identified in 1984, and throughout Professor Pete's 40-year career changes in therapy happen almost every year.  From the 4-H Club, Drug Holidays and the CD4 count thresholds for treatment, HIV therapy is always changing. This community pharmacist will travel through the 7 classes of drugs with clinically applicable information that you can use to manage your HIV patients. This webinar is a concise overview of the mechanisms of action, side effects and of course the benefits adherence for our patients. Patients in the 1990's taking handfuls of pills, while now there are now 11 different regimens that are simply one tablet daily. 

  This course meets the FL requirement of 1.0 board-approved contact hour on the topic of HIV/AIDS.

  Describe the pharmacist's critical role in counseling and educating HIV patients to improve the patient outcomes and medication adherence, as well as medical retention, in the health care system.

  State the current Florida Law on AIDS and its impact on testing, confidentiality of test results, and treatment, including the offering of HIV testing to pregnant women, and partner notification issues pursuant to Sections 381.004 and 384.25

  Identify related infections associated with HIV, including tuberculosis (TB)
