    • Overview

This webinar examines the liability of a pharmacist and/or pharmacy for the suicide of a patient following an alleged error by the pharmacist in the provision of medications to the patient. The focus of the webinar is on the legal doctrine of proximate cause, which can limit the liability of one who makes an error if the harm caused by the error was unforeseeable to the person who erred. Through the legal case study method, circumstances are evaluated in which the facts suggest foreseeability by the erring pharmacist, as well as other circumstances in which the facts do not suggest foreseeability. Strategies to avoid legal liability for patient suicide are provided.
