    • Overview

This monograph questions whether managed care has fully realized its potential to improve the quality of patient care while also stabilizing the costs of health care. The monograph suggests that managed care activities have focused almost entirely on cost containment, with far less emphasis on quality improvement. The lack of transparency in managed care contracts impedes a productive discussion between pharmacists and employers regarding the value that pharmacists can bring to health care provided to employees/plan members.
