    • Overview

During the COVID-19 pandemic, a main concern continues to be the pharmaceutical supply chain. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians receive many questions surrounding drug shortages because of the impact of the pandemic on drug reserves. These questions include the point of origin of medications, if supply will be uninterrupted, and how to maintain availability of life sustaining medications. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians have varied experience handling drug shortages and even those who are seasoned with this type of issue may not be aware of how ongoing issues with resources from one country may affect the global supply. This program will provide an overview of potential patient harm due to drug shortages, delve into the specific issues with interruptions in the supply chain due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and identify mitigation processes for drug shortages specific to a pandemic.
