    • Overview

This monograph tells the history of how regulatory agencies have addressed the risks to public health that may arise from extemporaneous compounding activities by pharmacists. The monograph explores the balance sought by regulators to restrict high risk compounding without interfering with low risk compounding. The notorious New England Compounding Center (NECC) is evaluated as a catalyst for enactment in 2013 of the Drug Quality and Security Act. New requirements for compounding pharmacies and for compounding outsourcing facilities are explained.
